Operations
HWN’s operations in Alberta’s Montney and Deep Basin are centered on light oil extraction, showcasing a significant inventory of over 1,000 drilling sites spanning 825,000 net acres. They prioritize high-impact opportunities in light oil extraction.
HWN is a high growth, light oil focused Alberta Montney/Deep Basin consolidator
The Dunvegan formation has been a core focal point for HWN since its inception. HWN is focused on Dunvegan light oil in areas with significant production history and data. The Dunvegan is characterized by high permeability and high resource in place, and some of the best oil wells in Alberta in 2023 and 2024 were modern Dunvegan wells. Outside of strong primary results, the formation is also conducive to longer term secondary recovery.
- Light oil, low risk
- >150 locations
- Significant historical development and exceptional recent results by HWN and other operators
- Multiple recent “top 10” wells in Alberta (Karr)
- Less scalable and more localized than other plays, but strong returns and has potential for longer term secondary recovery
In keeping with other operators in the updip Montney oil fairway, HWN has had significant recent success in its Montney position due to modernized and enhanced completion designs. With > 132,000 net contiguous acres that are lightly developed to date, the Montney is increasingly a core growth area for HWN. Additionally, HWN has significant infrastructure in place allowing for capital-efficient future development.
- Light oil, high impact
- >350 locations
- Sizeable contiguous position in the up-dip oil window
- Industry continues to advance completion designs, rejuvenating oil area activity
- HWN recently achieved excellent results
- Significant inventory with repeatability and opportunity for economics optimization and growth
The Cardium fairway has been a mainstay of Canadian oil production for decades. Characterized by its pervasiveness and predictability, the formation is a foundational formation for most oil-focused entities in Canada. Through acquisitions in 2023 and 2024, HWN has assembled an attractive suite of Cardium areas in Lochend, Harmattan, East Pembina and Rosevear which continue to attract capital in our development program.
- Light oil, low risk
- 500 locations
- Position spans the Cardium updip oil fairway in proven areas with significant HWN and offset operator activity
- Deep inventory with potential to expand core areas
- Diversified oil weighted properties provide optionality to chase best economics and/or improving economics
