Our Team

Prior to founding Hawthorne in 2020, John was the Vice President of Business Development and a key member of the management team for Three Rivers Operating Company III (3ROC III) and Three Rivers Operating Company II (3ROC II), two private equity backed entities focused on the Permian Basin. Over several years, 3ROC II built a significant position in the Midland and Delaware Basins which was sold to Occidental Petroleum in December 2014. Following the success of 3ROC II, 3ROC III assembled a significant position in the Delaware Basin which was sold to two private entities (upstream and midstream) in 2018.

Prior to his time at Three Rivers, John held various energy private equity investing and finance roles for Riverstone and JPMorgan with a focus on the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. John grew up in Dickinson, Texas, and received a B.B.A. in Finance from the Business Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin.

Before founding Hawthorne, Marc served as Senior Reservoir Engineer and engineering lead at Three Rivers Operating Company III LLC. In this role, he oversaw engineering evaluations, acquisition underwriting, and supported post-acquisition development and strategy.

Marc began his career at Pioneer Natural Resources, where he progressed through roles of increasing responsibility in reserves, production, and completions engineering across the U.S., including serving as Area Team Lead for the Sinochem Permian Basin and Reliance Eagle Ford joint ventures. Marc grew up in Midland, Texas and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to joining HWN, Kent was with Canlin Energy, where he served as Executive Vice President of Operations, managing the company’s entire operational portfolio. A native Albertan, Kent brings over 25 years of industry experience, having held progressively senior roles at PennWest and Trident Exploration before his time at Canlin.

Prior to joining HWN, Dan was the Production Manager and part of the leadership team for Lynx Energy ULC.  He started his career in the field with Renaissance Energy, working his way up to successively more senior management roles throughout his career. Dan is a native Albertan with over 20 years experience, received a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Regina, and is a professional member of APEGA.

Previously, Lance was a Senior Geologist at Ovintiv/Encana and served in various asset development, exploration, and business development roles during his 15 year tenure with the company. He received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Saskatchewan.

Ellen is a Professional Engineer with over 15 years of diversified engineering and operations experience. Previously, Ellen was the Drilling and Completions Manager at HWN Energy, formerly private equity-based Tangle Creek Energy Ltd. She started her career at Penn West Exploration where she held roles of increasing responsibility in Completions, Development, and Production.

Ellen has a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Dalhousie University.
