HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:
Job Title: Engineer In Training
Location: Calgary
Reports to: Lead Reservoir Engineer
The Engineer In Training provides technical and analytical support to the Engineering and Business Development teams, with a focus on economic evaluation, reserves support, and corporate planning. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role focuses on analyzing reservoir and production data to support informed decision-making in a fast-paced upstream environment.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Technical & Analytical Support
- Maintain and manage corporate engineering databases, including ValNav and GeoScout, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
- Monitor production performance and assist in identifying opportunities to improve well performance.
- Support economic evaluations for development projects, recompletions, and acquisition opportunities.
- Assist in the development of type curves, production forecasts, and capital efficiency analysis.
- Support quarterly reserves processes, including data preparation, validation, and summary reporting.
A&D and Corporate Planning
- Assist in screening and preliminary evaluation of acquisition and divestiture (A&D) opportunities.
- Prepare standardized evaluation packages using established corporate methodologies and development assumptions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of workflows, tools, and evaluation templates.
Reporting & Presentations
- Ensure regulatory requirements with respect to reporting and application are strictly adhered to and meet timelines
- Ensure compliance with governmental, company and HSE policies during all phases of work.
- Support the development of materials for management, Board of Directors, lenders, and external advisors.
- Remain a member in good standing with APEGA and ensure CPD hours are updated yearly.
Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including geology, drilling, completions, land, and finance to ensure alignment on data, assumptions, and deliverables.
- Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 3-4 years of engineering experience (internships, co-op terms, or previous EIT roles considered an asset).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Strong proficiency in ValNav and GeoScout.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with data visualization and analytics tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or similar platforms is an asset.
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
- Ability to clearly present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
- Self-starter with the ability to anticipate needs and work independently.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information.
- High level of personal accountability and professionalism.
