Contract – Financial Planning & analysis Professional

We are an oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Central and Northern Alberta. We are actively growing, both through the development of our current asset base and through the acquisition of additional properties in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Hawthorne Energy LLC operates in Canada through our wholly-owned subsidiary HWN Energy, Ltd.

HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: Contract – Financial Planning & Analysis Professional

Location: Calgary, Alberta or Stamford, Connecticut | Remote with approval

Reports to: Finance Manager

HWN Energy Ltd. (“HWN”, “we”) is seeking a contract financial planning and analysis professional to work either in the Calgary or Stamford office or remote with approval. The individual will report to the Finance Manager to support the corporate planning and internal financial analysis functions. The position title will be dictated based on experience level. The position will provide the opportunity to grow with the role and have direct exposure to the executive team at HWN. Ideal candidates must demonstrate the ability to adapt to variable business needs, be proficient in upstream oil and gas corporate forecasting/modeling and must be able to work both independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Financial Planning, Forecasting and Reporting

  • Develop and manage the rolling corporate, financial and treasury forecasts, coordinating with various departments to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure business performance and drive accountability.
  • Analyze actual results against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis and actionable insights.
  • Support the monitoring of weekly cash cycle and analyze trends across payables, pending invoices, receivables, etc. for cash flow forecasting and assessing financing needs
  • Prepare and present insightful financial reports to management
  • Review and analyze monthly financial and LOS statements for variances relative to budget
  • Opportunity may exist to support the maintenance of the corporate financial model and strategic financial modeling functions based on candidate experience and performance.
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager on an ad hoc basis on hedge book maintenance and reporting

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes, reporting systems, and data accuracy.
  • Leverage technology to automate and enhance financial reporting and analysis.
  • Help mentor team members and build scalable, repeatable FP&A processes
  • All other duties, as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Proven experience in upstream oil and gas modeling and internal FP&A reporting.
  • Experience in investment banking considered an asset.
  • Professional designation (CFA or CPA) or MBA is an asset but not required.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft excel with preference given to candidates with Dakota Cube and power BI experience.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience collaborating across multiple upstream oil and gas disciplines is a must.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, project management, risk, and time management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with excellent time management skills and the flexibility to work hours needed to meet deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity
  • High degree of independent judgement and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
