Co-Op Student, 8-12 Month Term

We are an oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Central and Northern Alberta. We are actively growing, both through the development of our current asset base and through the acquisition of additional properties in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Hawthorne Energy LLC operates in Canada through our wholly-owned subsidiary HWN Energy, Ltd.

HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: CO-OP Engineering Student, 8-12 month term

Location: Calgary

The Engineering Co-op Student role is a chance to gain valuable experience and mentorship in the oil and gas industry.  The role is in the Production Team where you will be able to work with professional engineers on multiple projects.  This position is ideally suited for third or fourth year students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical, Petroleum, Chemical, Electrical, or a related degree and are returning to school the following term.   This role is based in Calgary with possible travel to field locations on occasion. This dynamic position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to continue to learn about the western Canadian oil & gas industry

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to data analytic projects related to department metrics and KPIs
  • Support the production engineers with well file reviews and data gathering
  • Identify inefficiencies of wells and recommend measures to intervene for optimization
  • Participate in production team meetings and well reviews, with possible travel to HWN’s field locations as required
  • Work with engineering, geology, facilities, and other teams to identify, implement and monitor value enhancing projects on workovers and optimizations
  • Assist with other duties or special projects, as required.
  • A larger project will be designed for the candidate with a chance to present their findings to the executive team near the end of the term.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Strong computer and data analytic skills are required
  • Experience with MS Office 365 including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is recommended
  • Good written and communication skills is required, as well as, being able to work with different teams
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage their time effectively is part of the role
  • Looking for someone with strong attention to detail and the ability to clearly back up their work
  • Familiar with oil and gas facilities, infrastructure, pipelines, and artificial lift systems would be an asset
  • Other field related experience within energy, process, or manufacturing environments will be considered
  • Goal-oriented and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
  • Must have a class 5 drivers license with a clean record.  A drivers abstract will be required.
