Updated and Final Statement Regarding Well Control Event in Rocky View County

Calgary Alberta – Regarding the well control incident that occurred approximately 8 km north of Cochrane, AB, HWN Energy Ltd. can confirm that as of 7:30 PM MST on October 6, 2024, the emergency response was lifted. The AER and OHS have released the site back to HWN as of approximately 12:00 PM MST on October 7th, 2024. Additional repairs and remediation efforts will continue on the site in the near-term.

The well control incident began at approximately 2:00 PM on Monday September 30th, 2024, at which time HWN mobilized industry experts and specialized equipment to restore control of the well in a safe and timely manner, while concurrently protecting the public and environment. On Tuesday October 1st, 2024, HWN finalized and implemented a well control plan which was reviewed by regulatory agencies. By early that afternoon the fire was extinguished, and the well was brought under control.

Our thoughts remain with the five injured contractor personnel and their families. Out of respect for their privacy, HWN will not be making any comment on their condition. We appreciate the quick response and support of local residents, AER, OHS and all first responders. We would also like to thank the Calgary oil and gas community for their offers of support and assistance during this time.
