Calgary Alberta – HWN Energy Ltd. confirms that a well control incident occurred approximately 8 km north of Cochrane, AB. The safety of our employees, contractors, and the local community is our top priority, and we are actively working to address the situation.
The well issue happened at approximately 2:00pm MST on Monday September 30th, 2024. The exact cause of the incident is not yet known but emergency services, agency officials and trained emergency response teams were immediately activated. We have mobilized industry experts and specialized equipment to restore control of the well in a safe and timely manner, while concurrently protecting the public and environment. Five contractor personnel were injured in the incident, all of whom have been transported to local hospitals for assessment and treatment.
As a precautionary measure, we have evacuated non-essential personnel from the immediate area and have established an exclusion zone around the site. We are in close communication with local authorities, and all necessary regulatory bodies have been informed.
