Senior Production Engineer

We are an oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Central and Northern Alberta. We are actively growing, both through the development of our current asset base and through the potential acquisition of additional properties in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Hawthorne Energy LLC operates in Canada through our wholly-owned subsidiary HWN Energy, Ltd.

HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: Senior Production Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Calgary

Reports to: Manager, Production and Operations

The Production Engineer is accountable for all project functions and will drive technical aspects of projects while ensuring code and regulatory compliance.  The Production Engineer must be motivated, committed, and able to work in a fast-paced environment within a high-performance team.  Multitasking and priority setting skills will be necessary to manage the schedule driven workload.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead development of company’s Montney assets including managing historical wells, adding new wells with best practices, and assisting in infrastructure development.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures within the production operations discipline.
  • Review raw production daily to ensure data integrity, accuracy of metering and timeliness of validations.
  • Work closely with Operations team to optimize operating expense, maximize volumes, and facilitate long-term value creation in the asset.
  • Lead budgeting, volume tracking, and cash flow analysis.
  • Correspondence with partners and regulatory bodies as required; quickly address any field inspection concerns.
  • Evaluate raw gathering system performance to identify bottlenecks in development planning.
  • Review net production volumes against monthly producer statements to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with production accounting, ensuring production operations procedures have the highest conformance to Petrinex reporting requirements.
  • Lead well reviews to find production opportunities and manage execution of resulting optimization initiatives and projects – recompletes, plungers, compression, etc.
  • Aid in development and management of capital and operating expense budgets and production forecasts.
  • Oversee management of fluid sampling and analysis, workovers, suspension, and abandonment and restoration schedules.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with field staff on downtime, optimization, construction, turnarounds, etc.
  • Work closely with Facility group and EPCM contractor on facility equipment design.
  • Work with facilities inspectors during equipping and construction of pad tie-ins.
  • Participate in integrity management planning and tracking in order to maximize value of corporation assets and ensure timely resolution of non compliance.
  • Manage operations MOC’s; oversee project scope and budget
  • Participate in hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs) and shut down key reviews
  • Mentor junior members of the Operations Team
  • Development of Project cost estimates and schedules
  • Support enforcement of the corporate Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Programs
  • Review piping and mechanical drawings for compliance with project specifications and engineered drawings.
  • Regulatory licensing, reporting and audit management
  • Review and approve various technical documents for material / equipment requisitions.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Greater than 8 years of experience in a related role in the Oil and Gas industry in Montney focused assets
  • PMP, P.ENG. and/or Asset Certified and or desire to obtain.
  • Familiar with Oil and Gas facilities, infrastructure, pipelines, and artificial lift systems
  • Able to effectively identify and address well, field and plant performance issues
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements in Alberta
  • Experience working with engineering and construction contractors
  • Familiar with PMI practices and principals
  • Goal-oriented and capable of meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-focused skills with the ability to demand results
  • Strong commitment to team dynamics and team performance with a cross functional view
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work in the field
