Co-Op Student, 4-8 Month Term

We are an oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Central and Northern Alberta. We are actively growing, both through the development of our current asset base and through the acquisition of additional properties in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:

Job Title: CO-OP Summer Student Data Analytics, 4-8 month term

Location: Calgary

Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Analytics Summer Student to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analytics within the oil and gas industry. The successful candidate will work closely with various departments to support several projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets from various sources.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide data-driven solutions.
  • Document methodologies, processes, and findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for business improvement using dashboards and exception reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is a plus but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with production techniques and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas production accounting, production engineering or finance.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools.
